Miracle in Chile
The biggest news globally this week was the successful rescue of 33 Chilean miners. Expectedly, the leaders of Chile were jubilant. Nobody was killed, Chileans earned the respect of the world, and their government didn’t have to bow to the Chinese.
Chile’s President Sebastian Pinera was present at the mining site when the last trapped miner was rescued. Actually, one of his trusted aides advised him to just monitor the rescue efforts in a restaurant but he refused.
When the crisis was over, Chile’s President Sebastian Pinera faced the media. He was all smiles. And not a single Hong Kong Chinese national felt slighted.

For successfully managing the recent crisis, Chile’s President Sebastian Pinera was congratulated by world leaders… including Donald Tsang whose call was immediately answered by the Chilean leader.
After the flawlessly executed rescue of 33 miners trapped deep underground for more than two months, Chile’s President Sebastian Pinera plans to go on a vacation. He looks forward to visiting New York and eating hotdogs on a sidewalk.
The successful rescue of 33 trapped miners in the town of Copiapo in Chile took 22 hours to finish. The mayor of Copiapo did not call off the rescue… despite the unsolicited advice of his Manila counterpart to “just tire them out.”
Chile’s President Sebastian Pinera tells BBC that the mining crisis has united Chile. In fairness to Filipinos, we were united naman during the hostage crisis. It just divided… the Communications Group.

Thirty-three miners were flawlessly rescued after 69 days at a collapsed mining site in Chile’s Atacama desert. The rescue efforts wouldn’t have been successful if members of the media intervened in the operation.
Chile’s President Sebastian Pinera was praised for his handling of the mining accident crisis. He is so popular right now not just in Chile but all over the world including Asia. In fact, Maria Ressa is writing a ‘favorable’ article about him in the Asian Wall Street Journal.

PAGASA has set up a Twitter account (@dost_pagasa). It can now delete wrong forecasts.
