ABOUT THE HECKLER

The Professional Heckler is Loi Reyes Landicho: a snooty and agnostic online political humorist from Makati City. He was affiliated with a high-end FM radio network for 12 years. He decided to quit his radio job last August 31. He is now a freelance writer; currently writes for a television program of a major network, and hopes to write for more shows soon.

Last October 9, 2009, this blog won the Best Humor Blog Award at the 2009 Philippine Blog Awards (PBA)besting 10 other nominees.

It was the second win a row for this blog following last year’s recognition as the Best Entertainment Blog. The Professional Heckler’s nomination this year was its  third consecutive nod from the three-year-old blog awards.

The Professional Heckler was only three lbs. when he was born on January 16, 19something in a pastoral environment in Batangas. He grew up on brands like Cerelac, Growers, Tiki-tiki, Klim, Snow Bear (before Stork ate up a bigger chunk of the market), Goofy, and Chikinini (way before Boy Bawang was born).

As a toddler, he enjoyed watching Astro Quiz, Jeopardy, Press Your Luck, Voyagers, Silver Spoon, Punky Brewster, The Three Stooges, MacGyver, Superfriends, and Twin Peaks (Who killed Laura Palmer?) as well as Yagit, Dayuhan, Hilakbot, Ang Bagong Kampeon, Patok na Patok and yup, vintage NBA (way back when Magic Johnson, James Worthy, AC Green, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Michael Cooper and Kurt Rambis donned short shorts). In college, he got hooked on Picket Fences, The X Files, Ang TV, Tropang Trumpo, and my all-time favorite, Battle of the Brains. (Trivia Question: What retail store chain sponsored Battle of the Brains?)

He subsists on fowls, doesn’t eat vegetables and has halted his consumption of pork and beef on weekdays. He loves raisins, pineapple juice, and ice cream cones. He doesn’t drink coffee and hates chocolate-flavored food.

He doesn’t attend mass and refuses to buy the concept of ‘afterlife.’

He spends eight hours listening to the radio and an hour and a half watching television everyday. He is online from 9am to 7pm and from 8:30pm to 12mn, Mon-Fri. He either plays bowling or spends hours at Fully-Booked or Powerbooks fortnightly – alone.

His favorite tv shows include CSI, Grey’s Anatomy, Lost, Desperate Housewives, Heroes, Prison Break, The Amazing Race, Law & Order, House, The Simpsons, Entertainment Tonight, The Insider, The Daily 10, E News, Masterminds, Jeopardy, and Aircrash Investigation & Interpol Investigates on the National Geographic Channel. He also followed The Practice, Boston Public, The 4400, Taken, Without A Trace, Angels in America, Dateline NBC and Batibot.

He doesn’t fail to watch the games of the Los Angeles Lakers and makes it a point to catch the final matches of grand slam tennis every year. Other sports that he loves watching on ESPN or Star Sports include football (he’s a Manchester United and Real Madrid fan), bowling, swimming, and athletics.

The Professional Heckler is a loyal fan of the Los Angeles Lakers since birth. He owns a Ouija board, a golfball, a basketball, a baseball, a pingpong ball, seven Lakers/Kobe Bryant shirts, a Kobe Bryant bobblehead doll, Kobe Bryant trading cards, Kobe Bryant pins, Kobe Bryant posters, Kobe Bryant bracelets, an LA Lakers Parker  pen, a Lakers bag, a Lakers logo pin, a Lakers wristband, two LA Lakers tumbler,  a Lakers jug, CSI books, a CSI shirt, a CSI board game, improvised Taboo game cards (his own creation), Jessica Zafra’s Twisted series and three Malcom Gladwell books.

Trivia: He finished reading half of Conrad De Quiros’ book DEAD AIM  in a bookstore before salesladies took notice. [There was no Powerbooks yet then.] After which, he was barred from opening the same book again.

He loves the music of the Eraserheads, Coldplay, Hootie and the Blowfish, Pearl Jam, Incubus, Keane, John Legend, Linkin Park, Ne-Yo, Maroon 5, Dido, Nelly Furtado, Justin Timberlake, Natasha Bedingfield, BoyzIIMen, Brian McKnight, Usher, Alicia Keys, Mariah Carey, Jason Mraz, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, John Mayer, Chris Brown, Yano,  Gin Blossoms and ABBA (walang kokontra!).

He doesn’t read forwarded emails and text messages and gets annoyed at people who send the same text messages twice.

During his free time, he writes letters to the editors, tv reviews, and political satire. He calls this activity: heckling.

He reads a lot inside the restroom and sleeps with his radio on. He also scans every page of his favorite broadsheet- everyday, The Philippine Daily Inquirer. When he manages to wake up early, he listens to Chico & Delamar and participates in the duo’s hilarious top 10 segment. Yup, I am that Morning Rusher who uses the handle “Loi_Pogi.”

When he’s at the mall, he drops by Timezone and plays the Trivia Machine and a target shooting game.

A number of his blog posts were included in the political humor book “Hello Garci, Hello Maa’m: Political Humor in the Cellphone Age” published by the Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism (PCIJ) in 2005.

During his radio stint, he wrote scripts for a developmental information campaign, and a special segment promoting culture and the arts that both won trophies in the KBP Golden Dove Awards.

He was a contestant in at least six television game shows: Battle of the Brains; Who Wants to be a Millionaire?; The Weakest Link; Eat Bulaga’s Kaya Mo ‘To Trivia; Wheel of Fortune, and Game Ka Na Ba?

He speaks 12 languages, two fluently.

He comes from a family of educators and teaching remains an unfulfilled dream. He wants to die a teacher though.

His ate is a grade school principal, kuya’s a banker, and the youngest in the family, a sister is a physician. His widowed mom is also a retired Science teacher.

Finally, he cheers for the UP Fighting Maroons and the UP Pep Squad, adores the eloquence of Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago, loves Lolit Solis, despises Cristy Fermin, dreads death, and is pretty sure that he’ll die of cancer.
