The bloc-voting sect that is Iglesia ni Cristo is celebrating its anniversary today. Also celebrating are the newspaper publishers who are raking in revenues from sipsip politicians.
The Professional Heckler scanned three leading broadsheets today: Philippine Daily Inquirer, Philippine Star and Manila Bulletin and listed down the names of politicians, government officials, businessmen turned politicians, their wives and children, and party list groups who probably spent taxpayers’ money in an apparent effort to win the support of the Manalos and their minions in the 2010 polls.
Those who paid tribute, praised, and glorified the Manalos and the INC through half-page and full-page ads include:

will someone from the media please highlight this non-stop tarpaulin blitz from these local officials…. from happy birthday mayor to happy fiesta
i think the mayor where i’m from is the tarpaulin king… he even posted a huge sign in front of an elem school stating his project of renovating a toilet in the second floor of said school.

Don’t worry too much, dude. No amount of greetings, courtesy calls, or even direct contribution to the INC will guarantee that they’ll be included in the bloc voting list, especially for the national elections. If you’ve noticed for the past elections, INC only makes available to its members its voting list a week or two before election day. They’ll wait for the latest surveys and pick candidates who are doing great in those surveys. Come election results, it will seem that they helped the candidates win.
Politicians should actually concentrate campaign resources on the general voting public as they actually influence INC’s choices.

I have nothing against the INC. A lot of my very good friends are INC’s. When I was based at Singapore, I had never attended mass in my Catholic religion. Instead, I have been a regular “bisita” in the Geylang and Ang Mo Kio kapilyas.
