Doctors and nurses at the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City (President Arroyo’s bailiwick) are under fire for videotaping the surgery conducted on a man to remove a canister of cologne from his rectum. The video, which found its way into YouTube (but recently removed ) showed doctors and nurses cheering, laughing, and applauding as if the gay man had delivered a baby. The DOH has initiated an investigation. Sought for a reaction, the management of the hospital said, “That tape was edited and altered. We have the original tape.” (Hmmm… sounds familiar.)

(The canister got stuck after the patient had sex with a male prostitute on New Year’s Eve.) The video, which found its way into YouTube, showed doctors and nurses cheering, laughing, and applauding during the operation. The management of the hospital refused to apologize saying the cheering and the laughing was just part of the VSMMC’s New Year’s Day celebration.

The medical issue that involves doctors and nurses in a government hospital will not be taken lightly. In order to put back the trust of the patients to doctors and nurses of state-owned hospitals the Department of Health is taking lead in the investigations on this very unusual case. Usually our indigent patients are the ones who avail the services of these hospitals. That is why the DOH and the Philippine Medical Association will render actual punishment to those responsible.
News at this time says that the three doctors and one nurse responsible for the scandal have already been identified and proper disciplinary action is already set to be served. Concerned schools of the nursing interns will also be notified.

what?!!! only 4 people? there were at least a dozen cheering people in the OR during the operation, what will be the penalty for the others? a slap on the wrist?
