Had he stayed in the country and ran for public office instead, he would have avoided committing the crime – because in here bundles of cash are given as a gift – even without any occasion or no specific reason at all.

Malacañang is offering two million pesos to anyone who could give any information on the perpetrators of Friday’s bomb attack in Glorietta 2. The Philippine Daily Inquirer committed a huge mistake when its banner story today, October 18 claimed that President Arroyo was present when bags of money were distributed to local government executives in Malacañang last week. It turned out that the three reporters who worked on the story misquoted their source: Manila Rep. Bienvenido Abante. Unluckily for the paper, its news item came from someone with a name and not just from the paper’s usual “anonymous source who refused to be identified.”

Cory Aquino & The Daily Show with Jon Stewart

After a racist remark against Filipino doctors on Desperate Housewives comes another insult, this time on former president Cory Aquino on the US TV program The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. The satirical show is under fire for showing a photo of Mrs. Aquino with the word “slut” written on it. Aquino’s spokesperson Deedee Sytangco lambasted the show for insulting “a revered democratic icon all over the world.” Unverified reports say… to pacify irate Filipinos, the producers of the The Daily Show will just replace Cory’s photo with a picture of Kris.

Senate President Manuel Villar denied that an influential businessman has asked him to stop the Senate inquiry on the ZTE-NBN deal. Villar said, “Sinumang nagsabi niyan ay nagsisinungaling. Senator Alan Peter Cayetano said Sen. Jamby Madrigal was a liar for saying that he has cancelled the hearing on the ZTE-NBN deal. Cayetano also implied that Jamby was tsismosa (rumormonger) for spreading that falsehood to the media. Sought for her reaction, Madrigal said, “Ako?! Tsismosa? Pare naman… ano ako bakla?!”

Doctor’s Advice to FG

First Gentleman Jose Miguel Arroyo earlier said that he’s prepared to attend the Senate hearing on the controversial ZTE broadband deal depending on the advice of his doctor. A couple of hours later, his doctor advised him not to attend the hearing. Because of this development, the Senate will just subpoena the doctor to ask him how much he earned for giving that advice to Mr. Arroyo.

Preventing Crime

The Philippine National Police has installed 56 surveillance cameras in strategic locations in Metro Manila to prevent crime like theft and robbery. However, the PNP needs more cameras. In fact, another set of 250 is required for the House of Representatives alone.

President Arroyo has scrapped the government’s NBN project deal with China’s ZTE Corp. The First Gentleman allegedly tried to intervene by telling her to back off. But she slapped him hard and replied, “Back you!”

After meeting with Chinese President Hu Jintao, President Arroyo decided to junk the broadband project deal with ZTE Corp. President Hu initially protested the cancellation of the deal but immediately changed his mind when President Arroyo threatened to appoint Miriam Defensor-Santiago as Philippine envoy to Beijing.

Backgrounder: In the pilot episode of the fourth season of the ABC hit drama Desperate Housewives, Susan Mayer (played by actress Teri Hatcher) asks for the credentials of the gynecologist who examined her and told her that she was approaching menopause. Part of the lines she delivered was:

Nora Is Free Again

A Los Angeles court judge has dismissed the drug charges filed against actress Nora Aunor. It would be recalled that  Nora was arrested in 2005 after security screeners at Los Angeles International Airport said they found eight grams of shabu in a film container in her carry-on bag. Following the dismissal of her case, an ecstatic Nora Aunor vowed, “Hinding-hindi na ‘ko… magdadala ng bag. Promise!”

 Abalos Resigns

Embattled Comelec Chairman Benjamin Abalos has resigned. He backed off.

Despite his resignation, Comelec Chairman Benjamin Abalos would still file a 10 million-peso libel case against Joey De Venecia (not 20 million pesos as earlier planned). The value of his reputation has diminished by 10 million in a span of six days.

Abalos says he has not given up the fight – not until Joey De Venecia has lost all his hair.

Abalos said, “my resignation should dispel the claims of my detractors that I am dangling so-called “political debts.”  Sa laki ng kickback niya, bayad na lahat ‘yon!

Abalos added, “my resignation negates the accusation that this Administration is out to protect me and my incumbency.”  Whoever made that accusation is stupid and may have not heard the term “laglagan.”

Former President Corazon Aquino visited Comelec Chairman Benjamin Abalos after he resigned. As expected, Cory claimed she has been praying for Abalos. No wonder, lalong nagka-leche leche ang buhay nito.

Businessman Joey De Venecia admitted that he was surprised by the resignation of Comelec Chairman Benjamin Abalos. Asked how he felt when he heard the news, De Venecia replied, “I felt so high.”

Fellow officials at the Commission on Elections were also surprised by Abalos’ resignation. They were just talking about his plan to distribute balato last Friday.

The House of Representatives has dropped the impeachment case against resigned Comelec chief Benjamin Abalos. Rolex Suplico’s 15 minutes of fame is over.
